Easy to reach,
Casa Mia is on Viale Vittorio Veneto, on the corner
with Piazza della Repubblica. It is just 15 minutes
walk from Piazza Duomo and 800 meters from the
central station. Subway line 3 stops in Piazza della
Repubblica and numerous trams also stop here.
The hotel's excellent position is ideal to conveniently tour
around Milan (or move around when on business) when using
the subway or walking. We recommend an itinerary between the
contemporary art locations, from paintings, architecture and
design in the most advanced, modern city in Italy. Milan is
full of works of art from the XX century, starting with the
Pirelli skyscraper in Piazza Duca d’Aosta,
called the "Pirellone" by locals. The architecture of the
tower is described as "light as sails and butterflies" and
built between 1956 and 1960 by architect Gio Ponti.
Continuing onwards you arrive to Villa Reale, a remarkable
eighteenth-century building just five minutes from Casa Mia,
with beautiful gardens and the location of the Modern Art
Gallery. The collections host one of the most famous
paintings from nineteenth-century Italy, the Quarto Stato by
Pellizza da Volpedo.
Located next to the Gallery, the PAC
or Pavilion of Contemporary Art, an example of simple
and elegant architecture by Ignazio Gardella.
The building was designed and built between 1948
and 1954 and is a vast, state of the art exhibition center
and the location of important international contemporary art
events. From here you arrive to Via Turati, with the
Permanent Art Exhibition at no. 34. Founded in 1844, the
collection of art began at the end of the nineteenth-century
and includes works of art from some of the most important
Italian contemporary artists: Casorati and Cascella, Fontana
and Tadini to name but a few. The Ernesto Treccani Museum
is located a short distance away in Via Carlo Porta and
hosts a collection of 250 works that includes paintings,
graphic art and sculptures that document the figurative path
of this great Milanese artist.
Now head in the direction of Sforzesco Castle, with
Sempione Park just behind. Here one finds the Palazzo
dell’Arte in Viale Alemagna, the location of the
Triennale, an international exhibition of emerging art,
architecture and design trends held every three years. The
Palazzo dell’Arte is also the prestigious location of the
Permanent Design Collection, the most comprehensive
collection of objects that have made Italian design famous
around the world.
You can end you visit in Piazza Duomo, in one of the
many bars and restaurants that characterize Galleria
Vittorio Emanuele II, the trendiest street in Milan: look up
to view the beautiful roof in iron and glass built at the
end of the nineteenth-century. Casa Mia is just ten
minutes walk from here. Then relax a bit in the warmth of
our hotel before heading back out on the town in search of
"Milano da Bere".
